Know Your Child

We all think we know our children better than anyone, but do you know your child well enough to be their predator?

Shocked?

We're not suggesting you actually stalk your child, but be aware; a predator will make it their business to know your child's routines, habits, likes, dislikes and yes....NEEDS.

Not all children are abducted with such forethought, but the more you know about your child, the better armed you are in the event of an untimely disappearance.

"Knowing" your child is not enough. Panic, fear and stress are proven factors in blocking the mind from everyday common knowledge. It is for this very reason we strongly urge every parent and/or guardian to maintain a "FAMILY ALERT FILE" on your child.

Use the following guideline in preparing your file. Make sure that other family members (parents, grandparents, siblings, babysitters) know where the file is located for the sake of expediency in the event you are unavailable during the time of an emergency.

This kit will not only help you in the time of an abduction or disappearance. If any family member is suddenly hospitalized or even when seeking a new doctor or changing schools, you will already have valid and valuable information on hand to ease and expedite any transitions or emergencies.

Photos - Maintain updated photos of your child every 4-6 months or when any physical change occurs. Ex: Hairstyles - If a child has long hair then has it cut, or changes their hair color, get a new photo. If they wear several different hairstyles, have a photo of each style (braids, upsweep, etc.) Your photo collection should include full body, facial close-up and profile. Scan and keep these photos on a diskette as well as hard copies.

CAF will scan your children's' picture for FREE!
Send a clean floppy diskette with a self addressed stamped envelope along with pictures and we will scan your child's picture for free.
Email Marlene Slater for mailing address with "CAF Scans" in the subject header.

Fingerprints/Footprints - You can have fingerprints and footprints kept on local police files as well as your own records. There are kits you can purchase to do this yourself or have it done for free at your police department. This could actually be a fun and positive experience for your child as they get to know policemen personally and learn that they are their friends. Learn more about our ACA CHIPS infrared fingerprint poster program.

I.D. - Keep a copy of your child's birth certificate, Social Security #, passport, and any other pertinent identification documents.

Habits/Routines - Note your child's habits and preferences. Ex: Local hangouts, favorite foods, restaurants, style of clothing/look, toys, music, routes to and from school, friends, or activities. If a child is abducted by a non-custodial parent/relative or is a runaway, these habits will be followed to comfort/appease the child.

Friends - Keep a current list of your child's friends; names/nicknames, addresses, parents, phone numbers, etc.

Medical Profile - Dental records, allergies, medications, diet (including dining schedule), sleeping habits, etc.

Special Talents - Musical instruments or singing, modeling, art, writing...........

Distinguishing Marks - Scars, birthmarks, pierced ears or other body parts (number of holes), tattoos, etc.

Disabilities - Speech and/or physical.

Languages - Mother tongue and any other learned languages.
