Common
Misconceptions
"The police already have this capability."
Not true. Many believe that when a child is reported
missing or abducted, that the police have everything at their fingertips to begin solving
the crime. It's generally believed that entering this information in the National Crime
Information Computer (NCIC) database that all law enforcement agencies will be notified
and take action. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The NCIC does NOT and
WILL NOT notify your local community (radio/tv/support groups) that a child is missing.
Only the Abduction Central Alert (ACA) software from the Child Alert Foundation is capable
of automatically accomplishing this task in the fastest time available all from the same alert.
"All police stations have access to the NCIC."
Not true. Many believe that every police station across
the United States has access to the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) database
but this is not the case. Access to the NCIC system is mainly based on the budget of the
specific police station and in fact, some police stations are so limited in their
operating budget that they must share their fax line with their regular voice line which
is very cumbersome. Not every law enforcement agency can afford to pay for NCIC access.
"The Government and NCMEC take care of that."
Not true. While the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) is given over 50 millions of dollars each year and empowered with tons of resources, it does not provide an application that can address the immediacy like the ACA system. This is not to negate their efforts or any other organization that tries to help alert others about missing children. They do a great job of providing awareness, assisting in the recovery process after the fact as well as provide councelling for families who have suffered such an assault.
"Other organizations do the same thing."
Not true. Many organizations now exist that try to combat the
problem of child abductions and virtually all recognize the need for fast response but no other product available today can match the automatic capabilities of the Abduction Central Alert (ACA) program. Some lay claim to provide immediate fax distribution while others have poster programs for Internet users. Abduction Central Alert has harnessed all of this technology under one umbrella and more while targeting a 100 mile radius to help the police focus their attention on recovering the child as soon as possible.
