The Child Alert Foundation gave a presentation of the Abduction Central
Alert (ACA) software program to law enforcement officials in Brevard, North Carolina
today. Attending the demonstration was Sheriff Bobby Orr of the Transylvania Sheriffs
Department as well as other law enforcement officials representing Waynesville Police,
Ashville Police, Polk County Sheriffs Department, Henderson County Sheriffs Department,
Haywood County Sheriffs Department, Transylvania County Commissioners Office and a
representative from Congressman Charles Taylors' office.
The presentation was hosted by Table Top Music
Productions of Brevard, NC and was covered by Channel 13 WLOS TV News (an ABC affiliate) with an article to be
submitted by the Transylvania Times on Monday.
Those attending the presentation were amazed at the functionality of the ACA program and
how easily an abduction report could be filed. A representative from the Ashville Police
Department operated the keyboard using only one finger to do all of the typing and still
managed to enter the information in less that five minutes without any previous coaching
or training with the application.
Officer Eddie Lance from the Transylvania Sheriffs Department shared an experience that he
and his wife went through while visiting on vacation in Florida and commented that it
could happen to anyone at any time and how it almost happened to them.
To finance the ACA registration fee for each of the police/sheriffs departments in the
area, Table Top Music Productions has scheduled a benefit concert
October 30th in Brevard, NC. Much like how Bikers For Kids held a motorcycle swap meet
to pay for the registration fees for law enforcement in Missouri, Table Top Productions is
doing the same thing with the assistance of their country music associations.
Officer Eddie Lance closing comments about the presentation was that he felt
that the ACA program should be used as the front line of defense for every police
department across the United States and become an integral tool for law enforcement.
Shortly after the presentation, Sheriff Orr at a news briefing with the Transylvania
Times, made the announcement to inform the public that the Abduction Central Alert
software program had been installed on two computers and that
his department was the first in North Carolina to become an active participant in the
Child Alert Foundation system.
