(DUSHORE, PA –Sept. 11, 2002) – Robert Cornwell, Executive Director of the
Ohio Buckeye Sheriff Association announced, Wednesday September 25th, that he will be
providing funding for all 88 counties in Ohio to have the Child Alert Foundation's (CAF)
Abduction Central Alert (ACA) software available for each county. This will make Ohio the only state in the country to have this
advanced ANS system installed in all of its counties. Presently five Ohio counties already have the ACA technology for
abduction notification systems (ANS) in place. In January 2000, Ohio was the 6th state to have the CAF ACA software
available. There are currently 17 other states and over 125 law enforcement agencies that have
the ACA technology in place. CAF is a tax exempt non-profit organization that is dedicated
to providing the most comprehensive ANS on a national level.
When it comes to advanced technology with
ANS, Ohio will also lead the nation. The Buckeye Sheriff
Association chose the ACA software for two reasons. In addition to being the most
affordable system, it happens to be the most advanced and best technology available for
abduction notification systems. Based on the six year old Amber Plan, the ACA system was
first released in 1998, is totally automated and five times more effective than the
original concept.
In August Governor Taft issued an executive
order to have a “Statewide Amber Alert Plan” in place by January 1st 2003. In addition, Ohio Senator Kevin Coughlin has
introduced House Bill 290, which outlines and defines how and when a statewide alert is to
be issued. The Child Alert Foundation has appeared before the Ohio Senate and discussed
how the ACA software meets and exceeds all the requirements to bring the plan to reality
and be the driving force to deliver the alert notifications.
The ACA software will provide the needed
infrastructure to disseminate a statewide alert within minutes of a police reported
abduction when a child's life is believed to be at stake. The software will also be able
to interface with other existing ANS.
All this was made possible due to the efforts
of one concerned parent. Three years ago Mr.
Robert Fish was determined to see that his area and the State of Ohio was provided with a state of the art abduction
notification system. He has worked entirely on
his own without pay or compensation to see that Ohio has statewide coverage of an ANS and through
his efforts Ohio will lead nation using the latest technology
available. Mr. Fish resides in Youngstown Ohio and has helped provide the ACA software to
Mahoning, Stark, Columbiana, and Trumbull Counties.
