PERVASIVE UNITES WITH CHILD ALERT FOUNDATION TO SPEED

THE SEARCH FOR MISSING PERSONS

Company Heeds President Bush's Call for Private and Public Sector
to Join in Abduction Prevention and Search for Missing Children

Austin, TEXASAugust 7, 2002 –– Pervasive Software® Inc. (Nasdaq: PVSW), a leading provider of embedded and Web database software that powers business-critical applications, today announced it is donating the latest version of its flagship product, Pervasive.SQL, to the Child Alert Foundation (CAF)©, in an effort to help speed the dissemination of information to law enforcement officials, the media and others when a child or adult is reported kidnapped or missing. The software donated by Pervasive improves the speed and reliability of the CAF Abduction Central Alert (ACA)© system, which runs on an earlier version of Pervasive's database. The system is deployed across 14 states and growing.

"In an abduction situation, a minute can equal a mile and the sooner the authorities and media are alerted, the greater the chance of finding that individual alive," said Vincent Albers III, vice president and co-founder of the Child Alert Foundation. "That makes speed and reliability of our data truly mission critical. We reviewed many database software packages but only Pervasive.SQL provided those essential elements, plus ease-of-use, ease-of-deployment, and connectivity to the Web."

"The ACA program is based on the six-year-old Amber Plan which is only now getting widespread media coverage, as a result of all of the high-profile abductions. What the public and government officials need to understand is that six years in the world of technology is like moving from a twin-engine plane to the space shuttle," Albers added. "While adopting the Amber Plan is a good first step, the vehicle that communities will actually need to implement for a complete, automated alert process comes from ACA."

The automated ACA system identifies the target city of an abduction and contacts police, radio and TV stations as well as other law enforcement agencies within a 100-mile radius providing an immediate first alert notification. The ACA software uses the latest developments in Internet database management and computer telecommunications to deliver critical information about abductions via pagers, fax, email, Web-capable cell phones, Internet alarms and more, to provide police nationwide with a new tool to combat this crime.

"I cannot imagine a more mission-critical software application relevant to all of our lives each day and am thrilled that our product is the core technology behind such an important tool," said David Sikora, president and CEO of Pervasive Software. "When we saw an application where speed, reliability and connectivity are truly critical, the decision to donate the upgrade software was an obvious one to make. Like the President and Attorney General Ashcroft, we would like to see the system more widespread."
