How You Can Help

Help make your community "CAF Safe" ...

Contact your Congressman and demand that your community be covered by the Abduction Central Alert (ACA)© community notification system.

1. Get Involved In Your Community
Be a part of a neighborhood watch program.
Know your neighborhood and your neighbors.
Participate in volunteer programs that support your local law enforcement agencies.

2. Protect Your Children

Register you childs fingerprints and Indentification with your local Police Department.
Keep an "Alert Kit" with current identification of your children in a safe and accessible place (fingerprints, photo, video, physical description)
Know how to obtain your child's dental x-rays and medical records.
Don't leave your child alone or unattended in public places (in a car, in a store)
Know your child's friends, their names, where they live, and how to contact them.
Before leaving your child in the care of a daycare, preschool, baby-sitter, or youth organization, check their references and qualifications.
Be involved in your child's activities (volunteer at school and clubs, attend sporting events).
Know the routes your child takes to and from school, friends' homes and other activities.
Listen to your children; let them know you take their concerns seriously; dont minimize their fears.

3. Teach Your Children To Protect Themselves

Teach them never accept anything from strangers
Teach the "Buddy" System. Never go out alone.
Teach them to say "NO" if someone tries to touch or approach them unnecessarily
Teach them go tell an adult of any suspicious acts toward them.

4. Write To Your Elected Representatives

Let your elected representatives know how you feel.
Tell them what you believe must be changed.
Be sure they understand the priority you place on child safety.
Write or call Congresswoman Karen Thurman to tell her you support Milton Nerenberg's proposed amendment to the Missing Children's Assistance Act (1974). Nerenberg's amendment would add people over the age of 18 that have a mental age under 18 to the act.
You can contact Congresswoman Thurman at (352) 344-3044 or thurman@mail.house.gov
